Trapzuela
Zarzuela in trap mode
Trapzuela is a project created for the 2019 San Isidro Festival that stems from a simple question: what would classic zarzuela pieces sound like today if they were rewritten in the style of trap, reggaeton, or rap? The project blends Madrid folklore with contemporary urban music so that new generations can enjoy and understand what we mean when we talk about zarzuela.
Zarzuelas, chotis, and cuplés are revisited and adapted to the rhythms that now define the city's soundtrack, creating a musical hybrid that connects popular memory with the urban present. Trapzuela doesn't erase tradition, it samples it: in its own way, it traces the backbone of what we were, what we are, and what we will be.
